How to Edit and Save Hosts File?
Now, there could be numerous reasons why someone might want to edit the hosts file, whether it be for the purpose of blocking unwanted connections, redirecting local domains or internet resource blocking so that you are not bombarded with spyware and things of that nature. Regardless, today I will show you how to find the file and how to edit it.
First of all, in order to get the hosts file, you can click start and type C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts in the search programs box. The file will prompt to be opened and you can open the hosts file with notepad.
Now you can see that you can type in the hosts file and make changes, but when you try to save it will not allow to you because it says that you have to have administrator privileges. So, in order to be able to edit the file and actually save the changes that you make, you will have to find where notepad is, desktop, start menu…it doesn’t matter. Right click on notepad and run as administrator.
Now, when notepad is open, click file, open and find the file again under C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts and open it. Make the changes that you would like and save it with ease now! That is the only way that I know of how to edit and save the hosts file. Hope it helps you out and if anyone has any other ways to do this, let me know!
